The Department of Botany has initiated an e-Herbarium project aimed at documenting and digitally preserving the rich plant diversity found on the college campus. As part of this student-centered initiative, Botany students conducted a systematic taxonomic survey of the campus flora. They documented a wide variety of plant species, including trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers, and other vegetation present in the campus environment. Using morphological and taxonomic characteristics, the students accurately identified the plants and prepared herbarium specimens following standard techniques. Each herbarium sheet was carefully labelled with relevant botanical information. These physical specimens were then scanned and converted into digital PDF records. The collection of these digital records forms the e-Herbarium, a permanent and accessible digital repository of the college's plant diversity. This project offers students valuable hands-on experience in plant identification, taxonomy, field surveying, herbarium preparation, scientific documentation, and digital preservation. Besides enhancing academic learning, the project promotes awareness of biodiversity within the campus and underscores the importance of plant conservation. The e-Herbarium serves as a significant teaching and learning resource for both students and faculty, providing a digital reference for future academic pursuits, biodiversity research, and conservation efforts.
